The SeE is an intelligent system, measuring the
users competence in various areas and delivering content that strengthens
areas of weakness. The assessment engine is at the core of continuously
evaluating students. It will assist the user and the teacher in
understanding areas of weakness and strength and will help in establishing
a learning strategy for each individual user.
The typical process from the first use of the application is as
follows:
1. The learning engine will assess the user by asking questions
randomly based on certain criteria (details in the assessment engine
specifications). The engine will assess the candidate during the test
and record the weaker areas.
2. On completion of the test, the candidate will have the option to
understand from the application the areas where he made mistakes.
3. The engine will ask him whether he would like to gain further information
at that time or later.
4. If user chooses to acquire the information immediately, he will
be directed to the relevant course material where he can start learning
immediately.
5. The course material will contain text and graphics that will provide
information in a clear and concise manner to the user. User will be
able to:
Understand the course material presented
Browse the sections of the course material offered.
Browse to other sections of the e-learning module.
6. Since the objective of the candidate would be to improve his performance
in the assessment engine tests, he will acquire as much information
about the topics desired and then re-appear for the test until the
student achieves the required passing grade or as may be determined
by administrator.
7. The assessment engine knows from the previous effort the areas
of weakness and will generate questions from that area. User having
studied more about this section is expected to perform better.
8. This system continues and the user is in a process of continuous
learning about various topics.
9. The e-learning application will also allow a user to appear for
an exam at the end of a certain sets of learning modules or chapters.
10. Questions will be asked based on the categories covered and candidate
can choose to appear for the exam or learn more. The learning application
will not limit the amount of time a student will spend on learning
the course material but will not allow him to move to further levels
unless he demonstrates his abilities by scoring the minimum required
points in the exam on that section as follows:
a. Assuming a particular category has modules 1-12 grouped into 4
areas of 3 modules each.
User will start learning 1-3 and appear for an assessment exam
on these topics.
If user attains the scoring standards required, he can move to
Modules 4-6. If not he will be taken to 1-3 to learn more. This cycle
of learning and testing continues until user has moved progressed
through the entire course of 12 modules.
At the end of each assessment, his scores are being recorded and
improvements over previous attempts will be displayed based on admin
settings for displaying scores.
Items a - d above are like progressing through school years with
passes and fails. User cannot move to next grade unless he acquires
the minimum pass mark.
11. It is important to understand that the progression is within the
module and not with the whole course. User can be assessed on various
sections and he can then appear for exams.
12. Thus there are two routes to assessment:
a. Appearing for an assessment directly.
b. Appearing for an assessment through the e-learning modules.
13. In any case, irrespective of the module the user chooses, he cannot
progress within that module unless satisfactory performance in previous
modules is achieved.
14. This would be like studying say History, English and Geography
all at the same time. However, user will not be allowed to study beyond
say chapter 4 of either subject unless he passes the test for chapters
1 through 3. Naturally, candidate can be at different levels of progress
on individual courses, allowing him to learn a wider area and at his
own pace. Needless to say, user can always refer to earlier sections
at all times.
15. Progression is derived from the assessment engine scores.
Permissions and progression from one stage to the next is determined
by the administrator through the application configuration sections.
